Decoding technical docs and tenders, and multiplexing teams - Primarily German into English translations plus a range of other languages

Challenge

Working with one of the world’s leading producers of advanced compression technology on the translation of digital-compression content for both internal and external use (publication in leading industry journals such as the FKT).

Premium brand ∙ Tight timescales ∙ Large dispersed team ∙ Cutting edge technology makes research challenging so technical translators are called for

Solution

Once again, tight timescales needed to be met. Where multiple linguists were used, content was harmonised by a team of two proofreaders with several decades of industry experience between them. Translators all had a strong technical background, and the work was checked by me and/or another industry professional to ensure the text met target-audience requirements. While the texts were supplied mainly in DOCX format, some content demanded extensive ripping from PDFs (in the old days, before Word opened PDFs and other tools were available, this required quite a bit of OCRing). Often, translations involved huge documents spread across many hundreds of pages: all of which were translated and delivered on time. Technical issues were either answered by me or directed to our network of contacts within Ericsson to ensure the full meaning of the text was conveyed.
