Multilingual exhibition content supporting a complex historical visitor experience

The challenge

The Cittadella Visitors’ Centre in Gozo presents a complex historical narrative spanning thousands of years, from natural formation and early settlement to religious, military and civic development. This was our first project for the Sarner production team.
The exhibition required:
  • Extensive interpretive content across multiple themed zones
  • Coverage of diverse subject matter, including geology, history, religion and daily life
  • Delivery across multiple languages for an international audience
  • Integration of content into physical displays, interactive systems and multimedia
Content was structured into clearly defined visitor journey zones, each with its own thematic focus. This required consistency across a large volume of material while maintaining clarity and engagement.
Additional complexity came from the inclusion of image captions, artefact descriptions and scientific terminology. These were displayed across UI and interactive elements (e.g. navigation prompts, user instructions), plus content needed to function within spatial and design constraints.

Our approach

As visitors moved through the exhibition, they encountered a carefully curated narrative told through panels, artefact descriptions, image captions and interactive experiences. Behind the scenes, we worked to ensure that this story remained clear, consistent and engaging across multiple languages.

Our team translated and localised the exhibition’s complete content set, adapting material for a wide range of formats, from large-format graphic displays to concise interactive UI text. Particular attention was paid to historical narratives spanning multiple time periods, specialist scientific terminology and the differing requirements of each content type.

By maintaining consistency across every element of the visitor journey, we helped create a coherent multilingual experience that supported both accessibility and audience engagement. All content was delivered in step with exhibition production timelines, enabling smooth integration into the wider design and installation process. We also worked directly with the CMS (content management system) output, minimising bottlenecks.

The result

    • Clear and consistent storytelling across multiple exhibition zones
    • Strong alignment between content, design and visitor experience
    • Reliable delivery across panel, interactive and multimedia formats
    • Multilingual accessibility for international audiences
    • Consistent terminology and tone across diverse subject matter
The Cittadella Visitors’ Centre was able to deliver a coherent and engaging visitor experience, with content supporting both education and explorations – and it remains a hugely successful attraction.
